Applying Aerosol Contact Adhesives in Cold Weather

Includes AeroWeb Low-VOC Aerosol Contact Adhesive and AeroWeb PVC Low-VOC
Aerosol Contact Adhesive

Temperature Tipping Points

  • The minimum ambient temperature to apply AeroWeb Low-VOC Aerosol Contact
    Adhesive 25 F and rising.
  • The minimum ambient temperature to apply AeroWeb PVC Low-VOC Aerosol Contact Adhesive 35 F and rising.
  • Ensure that adhesive is at least 70 F upon application for proper spray.

Storage Temperature:

  • Store adhesives in a heated space between 60 – 90 F.

Guidelines and Best Practices

  • Use heated blankets to maintain the adhesive’s internal warmth. MuleHide offers
    power blankets for this purpose.
  • Do not use heater bands.
  • Do not place tanks directly on cold surfaces such as concrete or steel decks. These surfaces will quickly withdraw heat from the tanks. Place tanks on an insulated surface such as insulation boards.

Care must be taken when the dew point drops to within 10 – 15 F of the ambient
temperature, as condensation may form on the surface of the adhesive. If this happens,
stop work until conditions improve and allow the adhesive to dry completely. Then apply
another coat of adhesive or primer. Note that various weather apps display the local
dew point.
