Q&A with a Mule-Hide Expert
We sat down with Adam Zwickler, New York Metro Territory Manager, to get the scoop on Mule-Hide roof coatings. Adam has been in the roofing industry for 10 years and with Mule-Hide Products for nearly three years. He lives in New Jersey with his wife and son.
Q. Why do you recommend liquid-applied systems?
A. Liquid-applied systems are the fastest growing segment in roofing. It’s a great springboard for contractors just entering the commercial space. Liquid-applied systems go down a lot quicker than a traditional membrane, cutting labor costs.
Q. How do I know if my roof is a candidate for roof coating?
A. Roofs need to be inspected. Not every roof is a coating candidate. Coatings will extend the life of a roof that is in good repair, delaying for years, even decades, the day when a new roof is needed. However, it will not make an unsound roof new again. It will not resolve leaks, ponding water or other significant issues. Those problems must be corrected prior to coating or, if that's not feasible, the roof must be replaced.
Q. What are some benefits of a liquid-applied roofing system?
A. Coatings add years to a roof's life. White roof coatings enhance a building’s energy efficiency by lowering rooftop and interior temperatures. Coating a roof is better for the environment than replacing a roof. When coated, the existing roof stays in place, keeping it out of the landfill. While restoration takes place there are less disruptions to the tenants in the building. Also, the mess is minimal. In addition, fluid-applied systems can provide a fresh new warranty up to 20 years.
