Mule-Hide Products Co. Inc., Beloit,
Wisconsin, introduces a fire resistant deck panel designed exclusively
for the commercial modular roofing industry. The company’s design
will allow modular manufacturers to meet emerging code requirements
with a Mule-Hide FR Deck Panel, class C or A, which consists of a single
OSB deck board with a proprietary fire resistant treatment. These new
panels allow for easy, single-side, wet application of MH EPDM with
MH Water Base Bonding Adhesive. “Significant time and labor savings
are possible which will reduce system installed costs on a class C
or A rated commercial roof deck assembly labeled and listed by UL.
The new panels offer superior performance while reducing a five-step
application into four,” explains Mule-Hide Modular Program Manager,
Walt Griffin.
The single OSB deck board with fire resistant treatment
replaces wood and gypsum. Manufacturers can consolidate purchases with
a single vendor and reduce waste and disposal hassles. The simple,
attractive system means there are no fasteners or plate patterns on
the field membrane.
Mule-Hide fully adhered EPDM membrane using the
new FR Deck Panels resisted uplift pressures to 240 psf. A modular
building with this roof assembly can be located in coastal regions
where higher wind resistance is needed.
The patented fire resistant treatment is factory-applied
to OSB using the BLAZEGUARD® proprietary process. Under normal
construction and application conditions, the treatment will not flake,
crack, or peel and has more resistance to abrasion than uncovered wood.
The treatment will not promote corrosion of nails, staples, or screws
and remains breathable so it will not trap moisture. APA independent
third party testing has confirmed that the MH FR Deck Panel is stronger
than untreated sheathing, therefore, the rated roof assemblies do not
require modification of existing design calculations. All panels carry
span rating stamps from building code-approved agencies.
MH FR Deck Panels are made with natural materials,
contain no hazardous, toxic, or harmful chemicals, and can be stored
the same as stock OSB.
“Unlike pressure-treated products, these panels are safe for landfill
disposal. Toxicity tests show fumes released are less toxic than plain
wood under fire conditions,” states Griffin.
Mule-Hide professional roofing systems to fit modular
structures are sold nationwide and in Canada at local distributors
near modular plants and offices. Also available are accessories and
retrofit materials such as MH Self-Bridging Mate-Line™.
